Is it time for change?

Archways

In my experience most people change because they have too, life has left them no other choice and they have hung on to old patterns and experiences for various reasons. There is another way though, and it requires effort. You change because you want too.

The first way, people change because they have too, most often because the circumstances demand it with no other alternative but to change. This type of change is often abrupt and can cause many challenges. However, it is the most common reason for a change in most peoples lives. Usually, the biggest challenges and changes come from experiencing a change in what I call the big 3, relationships, health or career. Typically change on any of these levels is abrupt and can be a shock, which introduces fear and makes any transitions or changes even harder to navigate through.

However, as the universe and life itself are truly rich and abundant with opportunities, there is another way to change if you so desire. Usually, people who choose this type of change are dissatisfied with some are of their life and desire to change for various reasons. This change is through conscious effort. It can slowly and systematically reveal much about yourself, your subconscious programming and your true desires. If your willing to do the work it takes to honestly self reflect and heal old traumas and patterns. Questions will inevitably arise such as why are you the way you are? Why are you experiencing what you don’t want instead of what you consciously desire?

To look at your life and truly see where you require a fearless honesty. A willingness to see things as they are and recognition and awareness it is you who has the power to change.

Sound healing combined with energy work is a powerful catalyst for those willing to embark on an internal journey of change from within. When one changes from within one heal what has been holding them back, then the world responds to your new vibration with experiences and change that reflects this new signal your sending out. It doesn’t happen overnight and requires effort that is well rewarded. Are you ready?

TECHNIQUES TO RAISE YOUR VIBRATION

Do you ever wonder if you are on the same page as the universe?  Somedays, it can be a struggle, but I would suggest not to go there, instead try to keep your positivity in check, by trying to raise your vibration.  Below is a How-To article that I picked up from Spiritual Health that gives you techniques to raise your vibration instantly!

**In an ideal world, you get to wake up every day feeling grounded and centered in your strongest emotional, mental, and spiritual state. In this world, reality is more complex than that. Whether it is due to an intense astrological event, an unpleasant personal experience, or an unexpected outside force, every once in a while you may find yourself feeling drained and not your best self. Fortunately, you are always in charge of your own experience and can turn this around momentarily when equipped with the right tools to raise your vibration.

When you feel yourself getting carried away by the life’s hectic energies, and you want to regain your center and raise your vibration or overall state of being fast, the following tools are here to help you.

Raise-your-vibration-gratitudeUSE GRATITUDE, LOVE, AND JOY | RAISE YOUR VIBRATION

Love for yourself, others, and the world around you is at the very top of the emotional scale. It is the highest of all of the positive emotions, and it is often grouped alongside of appreciation, compassion, joy, gratitude, and passion. There are no bad emotions on the emotional scale, the lower ones are there to provide you with valuable information as well as show you where you have been holding your focus. To change your focus instantly and raise your vibration, you should tune-in to the emotions that have the highest resonance: love, gratitude, and joy.

Three ways to align with these vibrations are:
-Say out loud three things that you are grateful for today to quickly shift to a state of gratitude. It matters not how big or small these things are, but rather how you feel about them. You can say that you are grateful to be alive and that the sun is shining above your head. You can be grateful for your loved ones. You can be grateful for that amazing and nutritious meal you had.
-Call someone you love and ask them about their day. Shifting the focus from you to other people is a sure way to get out of your own funk.
-Say or do something nice for a person next to you. This also shifts your focus towards other people, which is psychologically proven to instantly raise your mood. As a Chinese saying goes, “If you want happiness for a lifetime, help somebody.”

Raise-Your-Vibration-FoodNOURISH YOUR BODY WITH FOOD

Nutritious food is a vital part of our day, and there is a balance to achieve. Just like eating processed junk food is bad for you, so is forcing yourself to eat otherwise healthy food that is simply not making you happy. Your goal is to keep trying new foods and recipes until you find what is equally beneficial for your body and joyful for your soul.

Quick tips to find balance in your culinary choices:
-Eat organic, raw food. It can be smoothies, juices, salads, or even healthy raw desserts from nuts and fruits. There is a lot to learn from the raw vegan diet and thousands of recipes to discover and try. There is something out there for everyone.
-Drink plenty of filtered water. This will help detox your body, which in turn will help you feel better and lighter.

LET YOURSELF RELAX AND REJUVENATE

A busy, cluttered mind can be a cause of much distress. The monkey brain, as psychologists call it, has the ability to create problems that do not exist through worrying about things that might never happen. Your goal is to gently and lovingly stop it. To do so, you can incorporate different healthy relaxation techniques.

Quick relaxation tips:
-Take a bath with Epsom salt to relax and detoxify the body. Try adding some essential oils to help soothe the mind as well.
-Choose a meditation that serves you at this moment. It can be silent or guided, or you may choose to do a walking meditation in a park or in nature.
-Do a short breathing exercise. One example is the 4-7-8 breath. To practice this type of breathing exercise, inhale with your nose for four seconds, hold your breath for 7 seconds, and exhale with your mouth for 8 seconds. Just doing this for a few minutes will help you feel more calm and centered.
-Say no to things that drain your energy; things that are not your responsibility and are often done only out of guilt or obligation. Choose how you spend your time and energy wisely.

Raise-Your-Vibration-TreeGET CLOSER TO NATURE

In Japan in the 1980s, scientists developed what they call Forest Therapy (also known as forest bathing). While for people who love nature this was not new, for the big city dwellers this was groundbreaking. This therapy is different from hiking, as the people participating do not have a particular destination in mind and are not in a hurry to get there. The idea behind this practice is to simply be inside nature, breathe it in, and once again feel that you are connected with the whole world. Many say that it helps see the world anew with all of its vibrant colors and amazing potential. If ever there was a perfect way to raise your vibration, this is it.

Tips for appreciating nature:
-Walk barefoot on the ground and lay on the grass.
-Find a tree that stands out to you and go next to it. Hug it or sit by its trunk and meditate.
-Unplug from all of your electronic devices for an hour or for a day.

START MOVING AND SHAKING

Your physical wellbeing is closely connected to your emotional state and is important to raise your vibration. Negative emotions and traumas can get physically stuck in parts of the body. This is why physical movement is so important; it can literally shake out the stuck energy that is not serving you. Getting physically moving also raises the endorphins, hormones responsible for many functions in the body. They also trigger positive emotions.

Quick tips to shake it up a bit:
-Go for a run or a brisk walk.
-Stretch or do yoga.
-Start dancing like no one is watching. Turn on the music that brings you joy and move in any way that feels right.**

Divine Essence Energy – Healing

I’ve been reading and research for language to share with others, as to how important it is for us to understand energy and healing. Most people do not totally understand the body/energy concept and with that said, the article below can help you understand that concept and put it to good use to heal our divine essence.

love vibration

“We are now entering the era of energy medicine. Everything in the Universe has a frequency and all you have to do is to change a frequency or create an opposite frequency. That’s how easy it is to change anything in the world, whether that’s emotional issues or whatever that is. This is huge. This is the biggest thing that we have ever come across.”

Dr. Ben Johnson

Throughout history, cultures from all over the world have acknowledged the existence of a Universal Energy Force flowing through everything in the world, including the human body. It has been given many names. In India it is called ‘’Prana’’. In the Far East it is ‘’Chi’’ and in some shamanistic traditions it is described is ‘’Chula’’ or ‘’Amimu’’. Today many people refer to it as ‘’Spirit’’ or the ‘’Life Force’’.

Both the ancient sages and modern scientists agree that everything in life is formed of vibrations. We are told that vibration is the result of force or energy, concentrated in some mysterious way and caused to vibrate, shake or oscillate at different speeds. The difference between one object and another is ultimately a question of rate of vibration. IT is the number and arrangement of the electron within an atom, and the varied cohesion of atoms into molecules, which go to make up these vibratory differences.

Our energy is something we put out into the world. When we notice this interconnection, how we affect one another, we start to take more responsibility for the energy we radiate. When we practice meditation we shift our energy. We begin to operate at a high-vibrational frequency, the frequency of love, and that’s when we are a magnet for more positive energy. When our energetic aura shifts, our consciousness expands, our nervous system neutralizes, and we begin to fully realize and experience a spiritual awakening… the recognition of our divine essence. Things become possible that weren’t before. A miraculous life unfolds in front of us and we can heal ourselves.

Energy in Motion

meditation-1384758_960_720

Today is a very high energy day because of the solar eclipse and the full moon happening on the same day. You may be finding extreme opposites pulling you in different directions. Highs and lows need to be balanced out by taking time to center ourselves, whether it be meditation, a walk in nature or time in silence, away from the hustle. The article below is well worded and talks about energy movement. Hopefully, it will give some insight and you will find your balance of energy.

Energetic Motion

In the span of a single second, our lives can change, as energy moves at a pace more rapid than anything we can fathom.

Since our lives are constantly in motion energetically, change is a constant element of our existence. As dynamic as that energy is, it is not random or haphazard in nature — the shifts in energy that are constantly taking place are the result of our choices. The formulation of intention, a change in perspective, or the creation of a goal can transform our lives in blink of an eye. We think positive thoughts and the world becomes a brighter place. Or we decide who we want to be and become that person. With each passing moment, we are given innumerable opportunities to create change using nothing more than our awareness.

In the span of a single second, our lives can change immeasurably because energy moves at a pace more rapid than anything we can consciously fathom. Though we may not at first be sensitive to the vibrational shifts taking place, our choices are ultimately at the heart of these transformations. We can typically recognize the consequences of key decisions because we anticipated the resultant energetic shifts. But many, if not most, of the choices we make each day are a product of instantaneous reactions, and these still have a significant impact on the energy of our existence. It is for this reason that we should learn to wield what control we can over these shifts. If we bear in mind that all we think and all we do will shape the existence we know, we can deliberately direct the energetic motion of our lives.

Each day, you make an infinite array of decisions that cause energy shifts in the world around you. In many cases, these transitions are almost imperceptible, while in others the change that takes place is palpable not only to you but also to those in your sphere of influence. Your awareness of the immediate energetic consequences of your thoughts and actions can guide you as you endeavor to make the most of the autonomy that defines you as an individual. The myriad choices you make from moment to moment, however inconsequential they may seem, represent your personal power, which sanctions you to transform the energetic tide of your existence with nothing more than your will. by Madisyn Taylor

So here’s what I ask, that you make sure you are in the present moment. Think what brings you Joy and live in it. Feel it, share it, write it down if you have to.  Go and do what you keep putting off or until the time is perfect, go do it anyway! NOW! Live It, Breath It, Experience It, not later, but NOW!

Wishing You Much Abundance and Lots of Love!

Clean Eating for Energy

Elevate Your Cells with Clean Eating

Clean Eating: Sleepy We all have those tired moments when we could use a little extra oomph. It’s 3:00 p.m., an important project is due, and the motivation to rally through is lacking. Many people turn to coffee, energy drinks, candy bars, and other quick fixes to push them through the afternoon lull. But these “solutions” can have serious side effects: caffeine too late in the day means restlessness at night, added sugars cause a sharp rise and fall in blood sugar levels; many energy drinks have a laundry list of artificial ingredients. You may feel a boost of energy initially but will ultimately be worse off than if you hadn’t eaten that Snickers at all (no offense, Snickers lovers; I’m right there with you).

So, what’s the best way to get your fix? The most effective way to address a lack of energy is to prevent the problem in the first place. Shoot for the long term, creating consistent energy through proper nutrition. Conscious (or goal-oriented) grocery shopping/eating and utilizing supplements to make up for deficiencies will super-charge your cells. There are also several options for a quick boost that are healthier and more natural than the ones listed above. Read on to learn more about using clean nutrition for energy.

Food for Thought

With food, timing is everything. It’s important to have a steady eating schedule. Eating snacks high in protein and complex carbs between meals can keep the energy steadily flowing. Foods like cottage cheese, tuna, hard-boiled eggs, or a protein bar can provide a controlled amount of energy. Such foods will satisfy your hunger for longer periods of time than quick-digesting sugars or other simple carbs. Protein bars, or even powdered protein, are also good substitutes when you’re unable to eat on your normal schedule. They are both portable and don’t need to be refrigerated. Make sure to stay hydrated, too, as any amount of dehydration can leave you feeling light-headed or fatigued (and continually debating that trip to the vending machine).

Out Shopping

Clean Eating: Groceries

When shopping for groceries, sometimes all it takes is reading the label to know whether a food item will contribute or detract from your long-term nutritional goals. I know when I shop mindlessly (aka, if it looks good I buy it), it inevitably leads to some poor purchasing decisions and, worse, I often completely omit an important food group or nutrient. Planning ahead not only saves time but could also save you money, by committing you to just the items on your list. Luckily, there are many ways to keep track of your shopping list; I use Google Keep, but there are plenty of great apps available.

Supplements: An Essential Foundation

Of course, it isn’t always easy to get all of your nutrition from food alone. For example, if you wanted to get the American Heart Association’s recommended amount of omega-3 fatty acids, you’d have to eat two servings of fish per week. This might not seem like a big deal to a seafood fanatic but, if fishy flavors aren’t your thing, it’s just not realistic to fit in those fatty acids. That’s where supplements come in. For omega-3s, you could try BiOmega™, an ultra-pure fish oil supplement that offers both omega-3 fatty acids and a dose of vitamin D.*

Another benefit to supplements is they can go above and beyond when it comes to full-body health, especially at the cellular level. CoQuinone® 30, one of USANA’s high-quality nutritional products, contains coenzyme Q10, which is key to the production of natural energy (ATP) in cells. It’s a cleaner, more sustainable option for energy on a cellular level. It has also been shown to support a strong and healthy cardiovascular system and contributes to overall antioxidant protection.* Nothing can completely substitute a balanced diet, but you can certainly enhance your nutrition—and energy levels—with the right supplements.Clean Eating: healthpak

If you’re like me and don’t have time to manage all of your supplements, it’s worth checking out the HealthPak™ from USANA. It’s a 28-day supply of core nutritionals, separated into individual AM/PM packs. It definitely beats trying to keep track of four, five, or more individual supplements multiple times a day. If you want a more custom solution, check out the MyHealthPak™. It’s similar to the regular HealthPak, except you get to build your own daily supply of nutritionals by selecting which supplements to include—and how many. My favorite part is you can choose which supplements go in the AM and PM packs, making once-a-day supplements easier to incorporate.

Quick Fixes

We all know, even with the best preparations, life has a way of throwing a wrench in things. Maybe you wake up late and don’t have time to make your high-fat, high-protein avocado toast. Perhaps work or life stresses are draining you, preventing you from eating when you’d like. Whatever the issue, sometimes we just need a quick pick-me-up. Whole fruit is a great, clean energy source that’s perfect for these situations. They have carbs, fiber, and the good kind of sugar that will give you a more sustained energy boost—unlike that Snickers bar we had earlier. So wolf down an apple or orange (or, my favorite, grapefruit) and get to it! Even if you need to go on a fast food run, a lot of restaurants offer fruit or vegetables as a side in place of those deliciously devilish fries.

If you do cave and go for that Snickers bar, it’s not the end of the world. Moderation is both fine and healthy (even those maybe-not-quite-so-evil simple carbohydrates I keep hounding on). Just make sure these little fixes don’t become long-term habits. In reality, the more you focus on getting the proper nutrients at the proper times, the less likely you’ll feel the need to turn to that late-afternoon chocolate bar.

Clean Eating: Recipe

Here at East Coast Life Solutions, we know that food and energy are synonymous with good health. Please feel free to shop for any of the above-mentioned supplements on our site, which will be delivered to your door.

3 Spring Cleaning Tips for Your Body

Green grass is beginning to show, tulips are starting to bloom, and the snow is melting. Springtime is finally here. Huzzah!

With the changing of the weather comes good ol’ fashion spring cleaning. If you’d like to mix it up this year, leave the dirty details of your house to a cleaning service, and spring clean your body instead.

Here are three easy ways you can get started on spring cleaning your body.

1: Pantry Purge

3 Spring Cleaning Tips for Your Body: Pantry

If you have a goal to eat healthier foods and snacks, let’s begin in the kitchen. For starters, how long has it been since you de-junked your pantry? Chances are you have graham crackers way past their expiration date (gross) and bags of potato chips and pretzels that make it too easy to graze on empty carbohydrates.

This might be a little difficult, but it’s important to get rid of the junk and replace it with healthier snacks and foods . We’ll get to the healthy replacement foods later.

If you’re worried about wasting food, you can donate any non-perishable items to your local food pantry or soup kitchen. You can also give perishable items away to your friends. As for the rest? It’s going in a big, black garbage bag.

Food for Thought: This doesn’t mean you can never enjoy your favorite treat. It just means that instead of stashing them in your home like a squirrel collecting nuts for the winter, you’ll have to head to the bakery to purchase that single, gooey, chocolate and caramel brownie you love.

Out with the Old

With your first sweep of the cupboards and pantry, get rid of all the stuff you know is horrible for your health. This will be the candy bars, sugary juices, chips, gummy bears, soda—it’s all gotta go.

3 Spring Cleaning Tips for Your Body: sugar

It may feel like you’re rubbing sugar in your wounds, but it’s important to completely rid your house of poor food choices. Otherwise, you’ll continue to fall back on old, unhealthy eating habits. Because let’s be real—if there are Hostess cupcakes in the cupboard, you and I are both going to eventually cave and eat them.

Later, you’ll feel better about your decision to pantry purge. Especially when you experience the many health benefits that come from eating nutritious meals and snacks. (And how awesome your figure looks in the mirror!)

3 Spring Cleaning Tips for Your Body: kitchen ipad

Next, check out the ingredient listing on the remaining products in your pantry. If you see sugar, salt, or unhealthy fats listed as one of the first ingredients, it’s a safe bet this isn’t a healthy food option. This should go in the trash.

Don’t forget to check your freezer too—just in case you’ve stocked up on frozen pizzas and ice cream.

In with the New

It’s time to go grocery shopping. Since you’ll be emptying your cupboards of junk food, you need to replace it with healthier alternatives. This is the time to think about what kinds of foods and flavors really tickle your taste buds.

For instance, you’re gonna hate life if you try replacing your Cool Ranch Doritos with celery sticks. But if you find something comparable and tasty, you’re more likely to enjoy and stick with it.

Eat This Instead

3 Spring Cleaning Tips for Your Body: healthy food

Here are just a few healthy snack options you can fill your pantry and fridge with:

  • Nuts—Almonds, pecans, walnuts, and natural peanut butter are all great sources of polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats if eaten in moderation. A yummy trail mix is another nutty option. Stick with unsalted for less sodium.
  • Air-popped popcorn—It might not be movie-theater style popcorn that’s swimming in butter, but you can season it yourself. And it is a much healthier alternative to potato chips.
  • Hummus—A good quality hummus is rich in protein and fiber, and in my opinion, it seriously tastes amazing with carrots and bell peppers or other veggies. Guacamole and pesto are other savory dipping sauces that are on the healthier side.
  • Hard-boiled eggs—They’re super easy to prepare and provide you with a good source of proteins and fats. Plus, you can sprinkle a little sea salt for extra flavor.
  • Berries—Whether fresh or frozen, you can never go wrong with a handful of delicious raspberries, blueberries, or plump strawberries.
  • Greek yogurt—If you’re craving something sweet, try adding some berries or banana slices along with a drizzle of honey.

Here’s a few more healthy food options.

2: Get to the Gut of Health

Did you know that the microbial cells in the gut outnumber human cells 10 to 1? Yeah, I didn’t know that either. Learn something new every day and all that jazz. To further illustrate this point, think of the microbiome as a tropical rainforest living in your gut. Just as there is a wide diversity of plant types in the rainforest (which all play a different role in the ecosystem), each microbe (bacteria) in your gut also plays an important role.

So basically, your microbiome is pretty vital when it comes to your gut health.

Eating Healthy Takes Guts

When we eat certain processed foods, the delicate microbe balance in the stomach can be disrupted and thrown out of whack. Obviously, you don’t want that. To help keep the right balance of microbes thriving in your gut, consider the following tips:

  • Cut back on sugars and starches—If you think you love sugar, it’s nothing compared to a bad bacteria’s sweet tooth. Sugar is their favorite food. To keep bad bacteria from building up in your gut, avoid consuming anything with refined sugar or high fructose corn syrup. And take care to reduce the amounts of starches you’re eating (think bagels and white bread, corn-based foods, potatoes, etc.).
  • Nosh on whole, unprocessed foods—The more healthy, whole foods you eat, the better. This would include fibrous fruits and veggies, beans, nuts, seeds, and whole grains.
  • Chow down on fermented and living foods—Now I’m personally not a fan of sauerkraut or pickles, but foods like these and fermented dairy products like kefir and yogurt (made through natural fermentation with good bacteria) can actually help to increase the rainforest of friendly bacteria in your gut.
  • Supplement with a good probiotic—This can go a long way in keeping your gut on track by repopulating healthy bacteria. Try taking USANA® Probiotic This probiotic supplement helps bring balance to your belly and digestive tract with a blend of good bacteria—Bifidobacterium BB-12 and Lactobacillus rhamnosus LGG.*

3: Move Yo’ Body

Part of spring cleaning your body includes getting regular exercise. Think about it—our bodies aren’t designed to sit around all day. (Why do you think your adorable toddler runs around all day and is a hurricane of energy?)

Yet far too often we slump down in our desks all day at work, and then go home to slump some more on the couch while we binge-watch Netflix.

Incorporating daily movement into your lifestyle can have major positive health benefits. Even 30 minutes of moderate movement can help rid your body of toxins through perspiration.

Easy Ways to Move More

If you work in an office setting at a desk all day, you can still get daily movement in:

  • Park further away in the parking lot so you have to walk a bit
  • Always take the stairs over the elevator (unless there’s like 20 floors, in which case I say screw it and take the elevator)
  • Use a standup desk so you’re not sitting on your butt all day
  • Take work breaks and go for a 10–15-minute walk outdoors, or even walk laps around the building in colder weather

As for exercising, you don’t have to join a gym or train for a marathon (especially if you’re like me and you hate running). There are tons of fun and easy ways you can get your daily movement in and also get your heart rate up.

Here are just a few different enjoyable ways you can exercise:

  • Disc golfing
  • Walking the dog
  • Playing Pokémon GO
  • Gardening
  •  HIIT workouts (high intensity interval training)
  • Swimming
  • Mud Run 5K
  • Stretching
  •  Mowing the lawn
  •  Rollerblading (does anyone else love watching the roller-bladers at the park?)

Whether it’s wearing a fitness tracker and getting 10,000 steps a day or taking a daily bike ride, find what works best for you and get movin’.

Spring Forward with Spring Cleaning

Spring cleaning your body doesn’t have to be difficult. But by incorporating these simple tips into your daily routine, you can start off this spring season with a fresh pep in your step.

The AromaTouch Technique Movements

Whether it is a hand shake or a hug, all physical touch holds different meanings. Even when sharing essential oils, there is a difference between rubbing the oils on someone’s forearm and taking the time to really affect their overall well-being through the AromaTouch Technique.

Physical touch is as important to the AromaTouch Technique as the aroma because of its amazing healing benefits.

While the main purpose of the technique is to apply the oils and provide the recipient with an essential oil experience, the AromaTouch Technique is also about connecting with another person on an emotional level. The connections developed through this technique form feelings of trust and help the recipient relax.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT—NUTRIENTS FOR BRAIN HEALTH

Your brain is powerful. You can even use it to think about how the brain itself works. Crazy, right? But this power doesn’t make your brain immune to factors that impact the rest of your body. Lifestyle and environment can affect your brain health. Luckily, there are nutrients for brain health shown to support cognitive function.

Lipids

For a long time, dietary fats (lipids) have been connected to brain health. Originally, lipids’ effect on the cardiovascular system was thought to facilitate that connection. But more recent research shows dietary fats have more direct actions on the brain.

Omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (like DHA from fish oil) normally make up cell membranes throughout your body. And like other saturated fat, they’re fundamental building blocks for your brain cells. That’s part of the reason fish is often called a brain food.

Flavonoids

The antioxidant effects of flavonoids are well-established in a test-tube setting. But these plant compounds—like cocoa, ginkgo, and grape-seed extracts—have more complex actions in the body that is continually being researched.

Some flavonoids show promising results in maintaining healthy brain function. Quercetin—a flavonoid that’s a major component of ginkgo biloba extracts—has been shown to maintain memory and learning abilities in some studies. Further research on the subject is needed.

B Vitamins

Adequate levels of the B vitamin folate are essential for brain function. The proof? Folate deficiency can lead to neurological disorders, like depression and cognitive impairment.

Clinical trial results have deepened the connection between folate and cognitive function. These studies have shown folate supplementation—by itself or in conjunction with other B vitamins (B6 and B12)—to be effective at maintaining healthy cognitive function during aging.

Other Nutrients

There are more nutrients for brain health. Here’s a short list of the other nutrients with researched roles in brain health:

  • Alpha lipoic acid has been shown to maintain memory and cognitive function.
  • Vitamin E, or α-tocopherol, has also been implicated in cognitive performance. Decreasing serum levels of vitamin E were associated with poor memory performance in older individuals.
  • Curcumin is a strong antioxidant that seems to protect the brain from lipid peroxidation and nitric-oxide-based radicals.
  • Several gut hormones or peptides—like leptin, ghrelin, glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP1) and insulin—have been found to support healthy emotional response and cognitive processes.

Energy Production

The brain runs your body. And it takes a lot of energy to literally be the brain of the operation. Healthy macronutrients are necessary to fuel your brain and provide the energy it needs.

The mechanisms involved in the transfer of energy from foods to neurons are likely to be fundamental to the control of brain function. Processes that are associated with the management of energy in neurons can affect brain plasticity.

Far-Reaching Impacts

Lifestyle and diet have long-term effects on your health. That means they are likely underestimated for their importance to public health—especially when it comes to healthy aging. But they’re important to your brain. The gradual and sometimes imperceptible cognitive decline that characterizes normal aging can be influenced by the nutrients you feed your brain through a healthy diet.

These impacts go beyond your life, too. Through epigenetics, you pass on traits to your children and their children. Newer studies back this up. They indicate that these nutritional effects on your brain might even be transmitted over generations by influencing epigenetic events.

6 Effective Grounding Techniques for Empaths

6 Effective Grounding Techniques for Empaths

Empaths walk around every day picking up on the emotions of others. If you’re an empath, this can be quite overwhelming and begin to affect other areas of your life, draining you of energy and otherwise impeding on your overall functioning.

Developed empaths can sometimes turn their empathic receptors on and off in various situations to better regulate how much emotional energy they take in at any given time. However, even the most developed empathwill need to learn grounding techniques so that they don’t get overwhelmed.

What is Grounding, you ask? Essentially, it’s the act of connecting your body with the earth, and there is science to support it’s effectiveness. When most people think of grounding they think of walking barefoot on the ground in nature. However, walking barefoot through a field is not the only way to ground yourself. Connecting yourself with earth energy can be done in a variety of ways. Most of these methods can be done whether you have access to the outdoors or not.

Here are 6 Effective Ways to Ground Yourself:

1. Oils and Incense

Grounding Techniques for Empaths

The use of plant oils, incense, and other aromatics for grounding dates back to ancient civilizations. Native Americans still use natural fragrances and herbs like sage, sweetgrass, juniper, cedar and pine needles to cleanse an area of negative energy and to attract positive energy. Sage especially is made into bundles called smudge sticks, which give off an incense-like smoke which is said to clear the air of negative energy.

As long as it’s 100% naturally derived, any oil or incense can provide grounding. Essential oils are great when you’re on the go. Natural incense and resins are great for burning in any room of your house.

2. Water

Grounding Techniques for Empaths

Water can be used in any number of ways to help you stay grounded. The options are endless. If you’re in need of a quick grounding (and relaxation) session, take a bath or a shower and just focus on how the water feels on your body. Feeling childlike? Dance in the rain or go stomp in some puddles. Live near a body of water? Go for a swim or just sit near the water and reflect upon your thoughts.

Water can also be used as an element in home decor features. Try setting up a miniature water fountain near your work space for continuous grounding throughout your day.

3. Meditation and Reflection

Grounding Techniques for Empaths

Whether it’s in nature or in the comfort of your own home, taking time to gather, organize, and clear your thoughts is important. It’s doubly important for empaths because of the amount of unfiltered, raw emotion you can sometimes take in. All of that emotion can feel confusing and jumbled with the rest of your thoughts. It’s also easy to get your emotions mixed up with those of others, so taking time to filter out what’s yours to own and what’s not is an important practice.

If you’re feeling emotionally stressed, try taking some time out of your day and asking yourself the following questions:

  • How am I feeling?
  • What is going on in my life right now that may be causing me to feel negatively?
  • Have I been around any negative people or situations recently?
  • How are these feelings serving me?
  • What feelings can I let go of and which ones are mine to own?

Write down your thoughts if you need to.

4. Gems and Stones

Gemstones and crystals are great for grounding because they come directly from the earth. They are also extremely portable. Some empaths carry a small pouch in their purse or bag with their favorite gemstones. Others wear them as jewelry. However you choose to use gemstones and crystals in your grounding techniques, make sure that they are 100% natural.

One simple way to ground yourself with gemstones is to hold them in your hand. Try rubbing the stones during times of stress or using them during your meditation or reflection time.

5. Communing with Nature

Grounding Techniques for Empaths

Of course, if you have the time and a favorite spot in mind, getting out into nature is one of the best ways to ground yourself. Preferably it will be a quiet location by yourself. It sounds weird at first, but you can use nature as a sounding board for your thoughts. If nobody is around to hear, you can say whatever you need to say out loud.

Try your best to experience the nature surrounding you with all of your senses. See, hear, taste, smell, and feel it. If you’ve never spent that much time communing with nature, I think you’re in for a treat.

Depending on the time of year and your location, don’t forget to grab some natural bugspray and sunscreen, dress for the weather, and take into account any seasonal allergies you have. Although nature is great, it can still be a little harsh to humans at times.

6. Going Barefoot

Grounding Techniques for Empaths

It’s the most basic grounding practice there is, and it’s simple. Take off your shoes and feel the earth. Whether it’s your backyard or the beach, feeling the earth beneath your feet has been found to have numerous benefits for your health. It’s especially helpful if you’re an empath, as it can help rebalance your emotional state.
