USANA Scam? 15 Reasons Why USANA is a Legitimate Opportunity

USANA_Scam_Feature_16x9-02You’re skeptical. Good! With all the schemes in today’s world, you shouldn’t be anything less. Maybe you’ve heard of sites entitling themselves “USANA scam”, and you’re looking to validate the organization.

We can clear up the confusion pretty quickly, but we invite you to be curious and skeptical. Be sure to do your research and come to an educated conclusion. We hope that this article will serve as one additional resource to your research. We intend to show you as transparently as we can why USANA is not a scam, but in fact a legitimate opportunity.

Before we get going, we would like to echo the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and preface that you need to be aware and vigilant to avoid scams, and to do your research. The best way to really know is to watch for updates on scam alerts by the FTC or your local news and to look into the company closely. We couldn’t agree more. That’s why we can’t be clear enough on defining who we are at USANA, what we do, and why.

So, let’s walk through 15 reasons why USANA is a legitimate opportunity, and why the term USANA scam has no value.

1. Fantastic Products

USANA’s business model defines us as a direct sales company, because of one really important reason—we have products to sell and people are buying them because they want our products and not as a requirement to participate. (See the section entitled “What Is a Pyramid Scheme and What is Legitimate Marketing?” in previous link.) And what great products they are!

Our products are so great, that we have been recognized and named for being the Top Rated Direct Selling Brand by for multiple years. And quite frankly, we’re pretty proud of the accomplishment. It just so happens that last year (2016) we broke the glass ceiling and reached over $1 billion (US) in sales, and we don’t plan on slowing down.

And yet, we take our business plan another step further. While scams clearly offer no actual benefit to you, many of our legally operating competitors meet the bare minimum requirement on truth in marketing and sales. USANA offers 100 percent returns on products to Associates for a whole year, which is far more than what the law requires of us. The truth? Our consumers don’t need to return our products because they get what they bought and love the results.

There’s a reason we’re so confident and so clear in our resolve: our fantastic products started with an ambitious vision.

Dr. Myron Wentz wanted to make the world a healthier and happier place. He discovered the value of antioxidants to counter the negative effects of free radicals in the human body, and has worked ever since to create a reality where people can live their happiest lives being their healthiest selves. As a result, in 1992, USANA was born.

So, why direct selling in the first place? Why not sell the products in stores where people can easily find them? We use direct selling with the intention to help people get what they really want: freedom. Freedom to do what they want and when they want. The opportunity to build a USANA business isn’t for everyone on this planet, and that’s ok. It doesn’t need to be. We don’t profess to have a quick “get rich” plan, or to have the “only way” to earn a living. But we do claim the ability to give people another option to build wealth and establish financial stability, especially when they already love our products and are seeing great results. It’s an opportunity for those looking to build their own business, but may be wary of doing it all alone.

2. Time Will Tell

When someone uses the term USANA scam, they do so with a primitive understanding of how direct selling companies function. As stated in our annual financial report, “Associates who are interested in earning additional income must successfully sell USANA products and establish a business network.”

Time is the tell-all, and when it comes to illegal schemes, time is the ultimate destroyer. For an illegal scheme to function, it must undergo exponential growth. Every person has to find so many people, and so on. Because the population of our planet is finite, and the population of willing people to participate even more so, pyramid and Ponzi schemes simply cannot sustain themselves for long periods of time.

USANA is not only self-sustainable, but is also preparing to celebrate our 25th anniversary this year at our international convention! Our years show a tried and true product and business plan, many accomplishments, and they also reveal intentions for our future. 3. FDA-Registered Facility

USANA’s Home Office is located in West Valley City, just outside Salt Lake City, Utah. Not only has the facility stayed put for over 20 years, but it is a registered drug establishment and is continually inspected by the U.S Food & Drug Administration (FDA).

We received the FDA Drug Establishment status three years ago (2014). Since then, we’re required to follow specific Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) for drug/OTC products to maintain this standing.

While our registration for the Drug Establishment is mandatory for certain products, we go above and beyond what is required of us for manufacturing supplements. We follow a higher standard of GMP patterned after that of pharmaceuticals. Our intent is to demonstrate to our audiences our commitment to making the best quality products.

The FDA reviews our practices and procedures onsite, and often does so unexpectedly. While we undergo repeated inspections, we also have to renew the drug establishment license yearly.

*While the FDA is a U.S. government regulator charged with regulating the safety and cleanliness of products, USANA is in many countries across the world. You may be interested to know that USANA meets other criteria given by other government regulatory agencies in their respective countries.

4. Publicly Traded

Another solid way to help you determine the veracity and legitimacy of a direct sales company is to look at whether they are a private or public organization. Not only are you able to get a clearer picture of the company’s fiscal history, but you can also be sure that the company has been around for a while, and intends to stick around.

This is yet another piece that many direct selling companies don’t do, because it is not required of them. By being a public company, USANA is required to maintain a higher level of transparency. The beauty in transparency is catered to you, the researcher. It requires a great deal more extra work for us. But for the consumer, you don’t have to believe me or any USANA employee for that matter, because we are required to disclose our sales, financial balance sheets, compensations to executives, employees, and Associates, profitability, legal risks, and much more.

Again, the term USANA scam generally comes from individuals and sites who have not done an extensive look into our publicly shared information. Simply take a look at our annual financial report, and you will find official statements on how direct selling works and how compensation works. For example, “under this system, distributors purchase products at wholesale prices from the manufacturer for resale to consumers and for personal consumption”, see section entitled “Distribution and Marketing”, subsections “general” and “structure of network marketing program”.

In 1996, USANA was put on the ticker tape with an official listing on the NASDAQ. We are now currently traded on the New York Stock Exchange (USNA).

However, because of our public status, short sellers are motivated to attack us. And attack us they have. Yet, we have prevailed and continue to do so by maintaining good practices. We are confident enough in what we do to be both open about our finances, and to withstand the occasional heavy wind that comes our way.

5. DSA Code of Ethics

Haven’t had enough? Good, because we have plenty of information coming your way, and it only gets better.

The Direct Sales Association (DSA) has set criteria direct selling organizations must fulfill annually to be considered a member, called their Code of Ethics. USANA is not required to be a member of the organization, but does so voluntarily. As a member, USANA has to maintain the criteria laid out by the DSA. We have chosen to take this higher road as a continual demonstration of our validity and intent to our consumers.

You may be surprised that many other direct selling companies simply turn their cheek to criteria that is not required of them, and focus their efforts elsewhere. USANA not only meets the requirements, but leads the industry with our ethical practices.

With so much excitement and success comes the exciting opportunity to be recognized for some great work. In just under 25 years of providing stellar, high-quality supplements, USANA has been recognized with more than 500 national and international awards.

7. Follow FTC Guidelines

Another solid qualifier in the establishment of our validity in the USANA scam argument is our following of the FTC guidelines.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), another government regulating agency for the United States, has certain guidelines that direct selling companies need to meet to operate legally. These same guidelines can also help you spot the real deal or an imposter.

We also are regulated by the FTC on the content that we produce to verify and ensure that USANA is not misleading people on what our products can do.

The FTC suggests to learn more about the company and to get an understanding of their history. For more clarity on our timeline and additional information about our past, click here and feel free to look around.

USANA follows criteria laid out with government regulation agencies charged with regulating truth in advertising, sales, and direct marketing in each country we are located in.

8. NSF Certified

According to the the Public Health and Safety Organization, initially established as the National Sanitation Foundation (NSF) in 1944, “Choosing a product certified by NSF lets you know the company complies with strict standards and procedures imposed by NSF.”

At USANA, we were initially interested in the NSF certification because it serves as yet another third party organization to come in and certify our facility and qualify certain products that go out to our athletes. To achieve and then maintain this certification we have strict requirements that mimic FDA dietary supplement cGMP requirements. This certification also requires inspections, testing, sanitation, and many other audits.

We do this to assure our athletes, and consumers in general, that our products are the best of the best. We can’t stress enough how important it is for us to go above and beyond for the USANA family, and we show this effort through ample research, testing, and certifications.

9. Peer Reviewed

Our friends at the FTC also suggest you listen to the ratings of others on the internet. What are people saying about the company? What’s the buzz?

You can find reviews on us in many different venues. Check us out on Google, and many others. We encourage you to do your research here, but if you have had an experience with USANA and would like to reach out and receive a response, please leave us a review.

We are confident that our consumers are satisfied with our products because they tell us. Our tested and science-based products do what the bottle says they’ll do. And these products, coupled with a fantastic network of support and communication, help foster a healthy and happy relationship with our consumers.

10. Transparency

This very page is an act of trust and clarity toward our large international family. But this is not the first act of transparency, nor will it be the last. USANA is a metaphorical open book, literally producing hundreds of pieces of content monthly to not only share valuable information about the products we make, but also helpful content supporting ways to achieve and maintain a healthy life.

Through our company blog What’s Up, USANA? we share everything from how supplements can support healthy bodily function to how to begin a business blog. We publish multiple articles every week aimed at helping anyone in the reach of our voice live a happier, healthier, and more balanced lifestyle.

We encourage an open line of communication via whatever means is most comfortable to you. Whether you prefer to reach out through social media, send an email, or call us on the phone, we want you to ask questions, and we’ll make sure they get adequate and detailed answers.

11. Rated by BBB

Now, you can’t forget about the Better Business Bureau (BBB) and the ratings they provide. Rated with an A+ by the BBB, USANA passes the BBB’s criteria with flying colors.

According to the Better Business Bureau, “BBB ratings represent the BBB’s opinion of how the business is likely to interact with its customers. The BBB rating is based on information BBB is able to obtain about the business, including complaints received from the public. BBB seeks and uses information directly from businesses and from public data sources.”

A+ is the highest possible rating, and we’re happy with the achievement.
